m. Rheuban - Painter and Mixed Media Artist

My art training began in the 80's with Robert Stoller, noted artist, teacher and friend.  While continuing my studies at Pierce Community College in Woodland Hills, California, I became involved with the College’s art gallery and founded the Friends of the Art Gallery at Pierce for the purpose of raising funds for the Gallery’s operations.   For many years I chaired the annual community art show, Art of Our Generations, at the Finegood Gallery in West Hills, California.

Currently I am a member of the Collage Artists of America and a member of the board of Women Painters West.

In an early series of abstract acrylic paintings on paper, On The Verge, I concentrated on works containing bold colorful forms that emerge from a grey negative space.  The series was an investigation into the reductive process and use of color.  Changing my emphasis,  another series was created of shapes and color emerging from a grey mist, evoking a mysterious mood, with more muted emotions.  Having spent many pleasurable years working with acrylic paint, I discovered a new creative joy in collage/mixed media.
